Adams Road Resurfacing to Start in July

The road will be closed to traffic for three weeks during the project.

Do you make a daily drive up and down Adams Road?

That commute is about to get more difficult.

Plans are for the road to be resurfaced between Auburn Road and South Boulevard in Rochester Hills starting in July.

An informational open house about the planned work is set for 4-7 p.m. June 13 at Auburn Hills City Hall.

This is what the project involves, according to the Road Commission for Oakland County:

  • Pavement repairs and resurfacing.
  • Pedestrian crosswalk upgrades to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • The addition of a center left-turn lane to the northern one-third mile of the project (from Woodcrest Street to Auburn Road).
  • The addition of right-turn lanes for turning into some side streets along the road.

The project is expected to start in early July and to finish by Oct. 15.

During most of the work, the road will remain open to traffic with intermittent lane closures. But the road will be closed to through traffic for a three-week period beginning sometime in July and ending around Aug. 15. The detour route for through traffic will be South Boulevard to Crooks Road to Auburn Road and back to Adams and vice versa, according to the Road Commission.

The $1.4 million project will be paid for with a combination of federal, county and city funds.

The resurfacing project coincides with . The bridge over M-59 is being rebuilt between Hamlin and Auburn roads in the city.

The June 13 meeting will be similar to an open house. There will be no formal presentation, but anyone can review project plans or talk with a Road Commission representative.
