5 Quick Things to Help You Get Through the Week

A light show, a road race and a road meeting are just a few of Rochester's upcoming events.

1. There's no shortage of holiday cheer around town this week. Monday night is and the kickoff of downtown Rochester's . Friday starts the , and Saturday is the first-ever . And then we have the next Sunday. You might as well make Rochester Patch your home page to not miss coverage of every single one of these events.

2. Run with it. Did we mention Rochester Patch will be at Saturday's with free hot chocolate? And because we're really that fun, we'll have candy canes, too. The run is new to town, and so are we. So we already feel a connection of sorts.

3. We're not going to talk about the weekend weather. With all of the outdoor events planned for next weekend, we think it's too early to predict rain or sun or snow. But we will say this: Rain is likely Tuesday, and snow is predicted Wednesday. The sun will probably shine Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

4. Get informed. A proposal to pave the gravel section of Washington Road that winds through the Stoney Creek and Winkler's Mill historic districts on the east side of town is the subject of an from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Oakland County Road Commission will be there to answer questions. The $2.4 million project would take place in 2011.

5. You won't have to clean this mess up. We hear you: You want to shout a June Cleaver-style "Sure, kids!" when your youngest ones beg to get their craft on and build their own gingerbread house.
