Hungry? 2,000 Cupcakes, Cookies and More Pledged for Downtown Bake Sale

Now appetites are needed for Great American Bake Sale.

Rochester's Downtown Development Authority leader said this week the DDA has received pledges for more than 240 dozen baked goods donations — everything from cupcakes and cookies to whoopie pies — for the town's .

The sale, which DDA Executive Director Kristi Trevarrow said is likely to be the biggest bake sale this town has ever seen, is planned for 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 6, to coincide with the .

a national organization working to end childhood hunger in America.

"They say that every dollar raised connects a child to 10 meals," said Trevarrow. "When you read the statistics that one in four kids go hungry, it really moves you."

The DDA is still accepting donations of baked goods. To donate, visit www.DowntownRochesterMI.com/Bake-Sale. Donations are expected to be dropped off Friday at the DDA office, 308 1/2 Main Street, above Holland's Florist.

But more than bakers, the DDA needs hungry visitors. In addition to the sale of cakes, breads and more, several activities are planned for the event. They include:

  • Kids’ Cupcake Walks ($1 per walk), planned for 8:30, 9:30, 10:30, 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
  • Williams Sonoma Pastry Chef Demo, 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • Chef’s Hat Decorating with , 9 a.m.–12 p.m.
  • Shelby’s Pie-Making, 10 a.m.–11 a.m.
  • Storytime with , 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
  • Pastry Chef Demo, 11 a.m.–12 p.m.
