Awaited Update

It has been over a month since my last post, but I have been just as observant as ever of the events in the State of Michigan sports world.  Overall, I am below satisfied on the satisfaction scale.  My last post was shortly after the Lions demolished Green Bay on Thanksgiving and got all of our hopes up, including myself(again), only to take a nose dive into failure(again).  The Red Wings have been slightly better than mediocre, including a heartbreaking 3-2 Winter Classic loss at the hands of the long time rival Maple Leafs.  The Wolverine football squad finished 7-6 with a Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl loss to not-so-great Kansas State, while their in-state rival Spartans capped off a remarkable season 13-1 with a Rose Bowl victory over Stanford.  Wolverine basketball looks a little better than the football team with a 10-4 record and a solid 2-0 start in Big Ten play, while #5 Michigan State just defeated #3 Ohio State in the Breslin Center in an overtime thriller, a game which the Spartans had led by 17 at one point. Lastly, the Pistons are sitting on 14-21 and 8th in the Eastern Conference.  Overall, it seems the happiest sports fans in Michigan right now are Spartan fans and with no end in sight.  MSU is poised to go on a long tournament run once again in March, and the football team seems to be close to competing for a national title soon as well.  I expect the Red Wings to pick it up soon, as their players are getting healthy at the right time, but it is the Pistons who worry me.  The Detroit Pistons looked great a few weeks ago, having beaten the top 2 Eastern Conference teams of Miami and Indiana on their respective home floors, yet lose at home to lackluster teams such as Orlando or Washington.  Maurice Cheeks is a veteran coach and has the talent to turn it around.  That is all for now, but expect much more in the coming months of this new year.
