‘Art-Around’ Promotes Work of Emerging Local Artists

Seven local pieces of art have been selected to represent the First Annual ‘Art-Around’ our Village program, coordinated by the Village of Rochester Hills, in partnership with the City of Rochester Hills. The artwork was selected to replace the Detroit Institute of Art (DIA) Inside|Out program that ended in June 2013.

“The Inside|Out program that was brought to our community was a resounding success that allowed people to experience art in public places,” states Shelleen McHale, Village Marketing Director. “We have embraced the purpose of the DIA’s Inside|Out program by the continuation of the program at a local level.  This program fosters both creativity and pride in our community with respect for the arts; we’ve embraced the program at a higher level by creating ‘Art-Around’ and highlight our own local talent.”

Sponsored by the Village Fine Art Gallery and Fine Art at the Village, the artists’ renderings will be showcased beginning this week throughout the Village of Rochester Hills and in the City of Rochester Hills all summer long. “Selections chosen represent a variety of art forms including photography, painting, and digital designs,” states Donna Beaubian, Owner of the Village Fine Art Gallery.

Selections were made by a panel of experts that were submitted from Paint Creek Center for the Arts (PCCA), Paint a Miracle, and several privately owned studios. “Art can enliven, enrich and enhance the quality of a community and our artists are honored to be part of this inaugural program,” Shelly Tyshka, Executive Director of Paint a Miracle.

“The best public art creates a unique place, a destination, and a focal point for activity or a meeting place,” states Tara Presta, Mayor’s Chief Assistant of Marketing & Communications for the City of Rochester Hills. “We have replaced the DIA art pieces at the exact locations the Inside|Out program was located in order to keep continuity and consistency for our community. The paintings are located at points of interests within the Village, such as Fountain Park, and at places throughout the city like Yates Cider Mill and Veteran’s Memorial Pointe.
