When Construction Takes Your Sidewalk Dining, Make a Patio

On the new Chomp patio in downtown Rochester, there's even an ocean view!

When the  came to town,  temporarily lost its popular sidewalk dining.

Now, a lot of mom-approved sayings could apply here. Like one of my favorites:

"You get what you get and you don't throw a fit."

But Chomp owners Ashley Brinker and Tim Brinker opted for a new twist on a favorite expression.

"When construction takes your sidewalk dining, make a patio."

"A lot of our customers come here while walking their dogs, and they want to sit outside," Ashley said. "So we pulled a permit and created a patio out back."

The painted patio seats 20 and is enclosed in black iron fencing. The tables have bright red umbrellas for the hot, sunny summer days to come.

Patio with an ocean view

Not many restaurants in a landlocked city can boast of an ocean view, but thanks to graffiti artist Chase from  Tattoo and Piercing, that's exactly the view the .

"Chase came up with the shark theme," Tim said. "He also did the cut-out photo board."

Ah, yes, the photo board. The Chomp patio also sports a photo op cut-out board, in case you ever wondered what you'd look like as a shark sandwich.

"The kids love it of course," Tim said, "But I'm always surprised at how many adults get in there for a picture."

To enjoy the patio dining, place your order inside and then take an outside seat. "We'll deliver your food and drinks to you," Ashley said.

If you can't beat 'em...

Chomp always features a weekly special, but this summer they've added a new wrap to the rotation.

"Our Construction Wrap is pulled BBQ beef, pickles, coleslaw, lettuce, tomatoes and onion," Ashley said.

And you don't have to drive a bulldozer to get it!

Chomp is located at the corner of Main and Second Streets. They are open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. .
