The Big Salad — and 5 More Restaurants Coming Soon to Rochester

All of these restaurants are in the works in Rochester or Rochester Hills.

We've told you about a few restaurants that have closed in the past month (Chapman's Mill and Flat Top Grille). Now, here is some news about the restaurants that are coming soon. Which one are you most looking forward to?

The Big Salad

Every time Rochester Patch asks readers which restaurants they would like to see come to town, this fresh-made-salad cafe is often mentioned. The Big Salad, a franchise that started in Grosse Pointe Woods in 2008, indeed has plans to open in Rochester this year.

"Currently, we have a franchisee ready to open in Rochester but we have not yet secured a location," said John Bornoty, president and CEO of The Big Salad, in an email message to Rochester Patch." On the company's website, it lists a Rochester location as opening in Spring 2013.

It's a destination for flame-broiled fast-food chicken, and it's a work in progress on Crooks Road between Auburn and Hamlin roads. There are 10 YaYa's in Michigan, including one in Royal Oak.

Jake's Wayback Burgers

The Delaware-based burger joint is coming to the former Crust location on Barclay Circle near Emagine Theatre in Rochester Hills. It will be one of more than 50 locations of Jake's, which is mostly on the east coast. Jake's serves burgers and milkshakes, house-made chips and turkey burgers.

Shish Palace

The Mediterranean restaurant is opening a location on Livernois across from Rochester High School. It will be next to Fuji Japanese Steakhouse.

Yummie Yogurt

The soft-serve yogurt shop will open at the Village of Rochester Hills in May. It will be located next to Starbucks, across from the gazebo in the middle of the Village. Yummie Yogurt is a family-owned shop based in Farmington Hills. A Plymouth location is also planned this year. It features an ever-changing menu of flavors and self-serve toppings.

Yogurt City Frozen Yogurt

Five locations of Yogurt City are opening in Michigan this year, including one in the Target shopping center on Rochester Road. The soft-serve frozen yogurt shop will open next to the Oreck store.

Yummie Yogurt and Yogurt City will be the third and fourth self-serve yogurt shops in Rochester and Rochester Hills to open in the past year. Bloomberry Yogurt is inside the Papa Joe's plaza; Sweet Island Yogurt is in downtown Rochester.

We used to live in Berkley and went to YaYa's at 12 & Woodward after mass every week. My daughter was 3 and still talks about their yummy chicken. She is almost 13 now, and will be so happy to hear the news.

I would like to see something more like a Frankenmuth open, only scaled down-where basic good cooking is served family style or individual. And if not, something on the line of Steve's Delli would be good.

For great deli sandwiches try Half Day Cafe-in the same plaza as Busch's and Trader Joes.

These sound like great restaurants! I will probably see if I can try a few of them. I think that it is important for new restaurants to invest in vacuum cleaners and an appliance service in order to make sure their building stays as clean as possible. http://www.vacuumcleanerwarehouse.com/about-us/
