Rochester Readers Split on Ice Cream Favorite

We asked and you told us; two shops on top.

The people of Rochester and Rochester Hills have spoken.

And when it comes to ice cream treats, it's a dead heat.

We asked you to  and even offered a reward of free ice cream. The votes are in and we can report the following:

Dairy Queen is the unofficial best ice cream spot around town with 13 votes. But it's worth mentioning that  came in a very close second with 12 votes.

An honorable mention goes to Pacuigo with eight votes. Sadly, this gelato-serving favorite will close its doors on July 1, so get your treats while you can.

Sanders gathered six votes, with multiple mentions of its Moosetracks, sundae of the month and classic cream puff.

Cook's Farm Dairy received four votes and it's good to know that you don't have to drive to Ortonville to get it. Both and serve the dairy's creamy confection.

Maggie Moo's of received three votes, gathered two and Baskin Robbins (now closed), , Oberweiss and each received one vote.

Special treats

Some readers not only shared their favorite places, but some entries included the treats that helped secure their vote.

Reader Mary, who gave us this heavenly sounding concoction from Cold Stone: "I like to mix the coffee and sweet cream together with caramel and mini chocolate chips — it's cold, gooey & yum!!"

Reader Stacey Clayton is also a Cold Stone lover and recommends the birthday cake cone.

Lisa Szappon Brady offers this delight: "I am in love with The Dessert Oasis' Mint Chocolate Chip! They serve it on the cutest platter with a tiny golden spoon and garnished with whipped cream!"

Dairy Queen Blizzards of all flavors also seem to be a Rochester favorite.

And the winner is ...

Our winning entry, chosen at random, came from reader Kim who proudly proclaimed Cold Stone as her favorite. Her $25 gift certificate is in the mail. Thanks, Kim, and our readers for participating.

Happy summer vacation!
