Photo of the Day: Presenting ... the 'Beautiful Loser'

We tried the Rochester Hills cupcake that competed on 'Cupcake Wars' on Sunday night. Did you?

Customers of Rockin' Cupcakes in Rochester Hills were lining up Monday morning to sample a ferociously tasty treat — and to congratulate the bakers who created it.

The Rochester Hills shop gave away for free a cupcake they called "Beautiful Loser." It was made for the season premiere episode of Food Network's "Cupcake Wars," which aired Sunday night. Shop owners Mary and Kara Ohngren appeared on the show; though they didn't make it past the first round, they had fun showing off their cupcake entry for customers on Monday.

Customers received one free "Beautiful Loser" cupcake with each purchase Monday. The cupcake was a corn and Italian-cured beef cupcake topped with brown butter buttercream frosting and crispy fried bresaola — a thin Italian beef similar to bacon. It was created as part of the show's challenge: to make something using two ingredients zoo animals would eat.

One of the ingredient options on the show was crickets; when asked on Monday whether she ever considered using them, Mary Ohngren said "No way!"

Rockin' Cupcakes is open until 7 p.m. Monday.
