It's Fresh and Has 'The Juice;' Are You Ready for Jersey Mike's?

We had a sneak preview of Jersey Mike's, which opens Wednesday in Rochester Hills.

They say, "don't mess with a good thing."

That's why the owners of the new Rochester Hills Jersey Mike's subs want you to try your sub "Mike's Way."

Mike's Way has onion, lettuce, tomatoes, spices and "The Juice."

"It's a flavor profile second-to-none," said partner/owner Bob Middleton.

"When the flavor is that good, you don't want to dilute it," partner/owner Bill Biga agreed. "You should enjoy the sandwich the way it was created."

That's not to say other combinations aren't gladly accepted. Add banana peppers, hold the onions, add extra pickles. Your sub is custom-made in front of you, with meat fresh off the slicer.

Fresh, fresh, fresh

Fresh is a word you'll hear a lot at Jersey Mike's.

The bread is baked fresh in-house every day. The vegetables are fresh-cut every day. The iced tea is brewed fresh every morning.

And there's no such thing as pre-sliced meat.

"The flavor is amazing when it comes straight off the slicer," Biga said.

We have to agree.

For our first-ever Jersey Mike's sub experience, the quality of every element of the meal was fantastic.

Both Biga and Middleton called out No. 8, the Sub Club, as their favorite sub. In fact, Biga said he's had a No. 8 "every day for the last 10 days."

With that kind of ringing endorsement, we had to try it — "Mike's Way," of course.

The Juice — red wine vinegar and olive oil — and the spices (hello, oregeno!) made the sub for me, while my husband tried desperately to find out where he could purchase that meat (it's a private label made just for Jersey Mike's).

"It's all premium ingredients," Middleton said.

And you can tell, right down to the homemade cookies they have for dessert.

'Can't go wrong'

This is Middleton, Biga and partner Carl Chandler's second Jersey Mike's Michigan location — their Shelby Township location opened in September.

They plan to open another 20 locations in the next five years.

"We love the brand," Biga said. "There's an energy level here different from any other."

While the in-store experience may separate Jersey Mike's from others, Middleton simply brought it down to this: "A sub and a bag of chips? You can't go wrong."

Jersey Mike's Subs is open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call this Jersey Mike's at (248) 293-5260.
