According to a Village executive, store founders Megan and Michael Tamte were attracted to the location with its surrounding demographic of fashion-forward moms.

“The Hot Mama team is making smart real estate decisions across the country," said Scott Aikens, vice president of leasing at the Village, in a news release. “It’s a great sign for the state that they’ve chosen to expand into metro Detroit.

"We’re honored that they’ve chosen the Village of Rochester Hills as the home for their first area boutique."

Ever try shopping with an infant?

The idea of Hot Mama began three weeks after the birth of founding hot mama Megan Tamte's first child. A fun shopping trip to the mall turned out to be anything but.

Returning home stressed out and empty-handed, the idea of a boutique that caters to moms took hold in Tamte's head.

She imagined a boutique that would have helpful sales associates to maximize moms' limited shopping time. More than that, this imaginary boutique would sell clothing to flatter mom body types but still be stylish — maybe even designer stylish.

With seven years of hard work, Tamte's idea became a reality.

The first Hot Mama opened seven years ago in Edina, Minnesota.

“I need clothes that are quick and easy to wear that can take me from a board meeting, to my son’s baseball game, to a date night with my husband," Tamte wrote on the store's website.  "I’ve learned over the years how important it is for me to take care of myself physically, mentally, and spiritually so I can be the best mom I can be.”

There are now 22 Hot Mama stores in eight states, with eight new stores opening in 2012.

The Village location will be Hot Mama's second Michigan location. Its first is in East Grand Rapids.

Hot Mama will be located in one of the locations occupied by ; those stores are being reconfigured.

'Guilt-Free Fashion'

To get a peak at the clothes Hot Mama will offer, you can visit www.shopmama.com

The site opens with a page called "Guilt-Free Fashion" and includes jeans, dresses and accessories.

The website also calls out some important categories to help moms shop:

  • For the working mom there's a "Wear to Work" choice.
  • For the thrifty mom, "Finds Under $58."
  • And for the mom who has to have the latest, there's "Just In."

A recent survey of Hot Mama shoppers indicated that half its customers are in their 30s while 40 percent are 40 or older.

Sales have more than doubled in the past two years indicating that the world is filled with hot moms.

"I truly LOVE moms and I feel honored that I get the chance to serve them every day. Each mom is a Hot Mama, but it’s easy to lose sight of that in the midst of motherhood," Tamte said on her website.
