EB Cosmetics Brings Beauty to Main Street

Around Town Laura gets made over by makeup and skincare expert Elise Calvert.

There’s a whole lot of beauty tucked into EB Cosmetics on Main Street.

Although the square footage is small, there are more than 500 natural, mineral-based products to choose from and, best of all, the expert to help you make your selections.

Elise Calvert knows the product well: it’s her own line. It launched in 2008.

“I was a sales director with Mary Kay Cosmetics for eight years when I decided to launch my own line,” Calvert said.

Working with a chemist she created Elyse Beautiful Cosmetics, a hypoallergenic line that includes skin care. A top seller is her anti-aging moisturizer with green and white teas and peptides, a natural skin tightener.

Not only can you buy the product, you can schedule a consultation with Calvert for either skin care or cosmetics. Most appointments take 45 to 90 minutes.

"I really take the time to get to know you and understand your needs," Calvert said. "Then I teach as I go. You see the mirror and you control the look."

I take the chair

Always willing to play with makeup, I took Calvert's chair.

One of Calvert's most popular products is the primer. It's made with grape seed extract and vitamins A and E.

"It makes the skin like butter," Calvert said. A bottle is $29.50 and should last three to five months.

With the primer in place, next comes foundation. The EB foundation comes in stick form and is applied in stripes like "war paint" Calvert said.

"I base my foundations on tone, not color. Then it looks completely natural."

A foundation stick is $35.

The EB powder is 100 percent mineral and sets the look.

Colors of spring

The color for this spring, according to Calvert, is yellow.

"Yellow is going to be hot. White, orange and a beautiful green. You want to go with the warm family."

EB Cosmetics has 200 shades of eye shadows to start with in warm, cool and neutral tones.

"If you can't do warm tones with your coloring, go neutral," Calvert suggested.

Eye products come in cream shadow that applies effortlessly then stays all day and eye-lights to give a little pop.

For the eyebrows Calvert uses a brow wax and powder.

"It looks more natural than a pencil but is very polished," Calvert said.

For the lips EB Cosmetics offers 70 different shades. "Nude lips are the trend now," Calvert said.

With a new face, I was ready for the world. Calvert assured me the makeup would last the day and look the same when I was ready to take it off.

She was right! I hated to wash my face that night. I went to bed with dreams of cosmetics going through my head.

My EB dream list includes the primer, eyebrow wax and powder and the eye-lights.

"The most important thing is to wear what you're comfortable with. What feels good is what looks good," Calvert said.
