'Dairy Queen is Open; Spring Can Come'
It's a downtown Rochester tradition and this year, it happened early: DQ has re-opened for the season.
Never mind the blizzard, because a Blizzard awaits.
Downtown Rochester's Dairy Queen, known for its frosty "Blizzard" treats, reopened for the season Thursday — a week ahead of schedule.
The shop, which is a short walk from the Paint Creek Trail and Rochester Municipal Park, closes each winter. Owner Tom Keller said it usually re-opens in March, but this week seemed the right time to welcome customers for the 2013 season.

On Friday, he paid no attention to the snowy atmosphere outside the building. "Dairy Queen is open, spring can come," said Keller, whose family built the shop in 1964.
Hours are Sunday-Thursday 11 a.m.-9:30 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
