Modern Dance Takes Center Stage at OU's Varner Hall

Innovative dance companies visit Oakland University on Feb. 7-8.

Lovers of contemporary modern dance should take note of two upcoming concerts featuring Take Root and The Leopold Group. Presented by the Oakland University Dance program, the innovative dance companies will perform at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 8 in Varner Recital Hall.

Co-founded and directed by OU Dance faculty members Thayer Jonutz and Ali Woerner, Take Root is a professional dance company with a growing reputation for its collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to concepts and movement. The Leopold Group, founded by Lizzie Leopold, is guaranteed to bring innovative movement creations to the stage. The Chicago-based group strives to create, promote and produce modern dance performances that are an accessible, interesting and intellectual form of communication. Varner Recital Hall is on the Oakland University campus. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smartphone. Ample free parking will be available.

Tickets are $14 general admission and $8 for students and can be purchased in advance with no service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737.
