"It Takes a Village" Kids Club

Written by MamaShelleen “It Takes a Village” Kids Club starts June 20th in Festival Park and continues every Wednesday at 10:30am throughout the summer.  The purpose of this “club” is to give kids the opportunity to try new concepts, ideas and classes.  Each week we will host something for the children to do and Oakland County Moms (OCM) will add to the day with something fun and interactive. June 20th the Rochester Library will be onsite reading “Dream of the Seven Seas,” a pirate adventure.  All kids are invited to dress up, moms you can too!  After the story, Oakland County moms will host an interactive Village Treasure Hunt for parents and their children.  Afterwards, you turn it in to get a small prize. June 27th Lozier Music will have a fun, interactive piano class for children ages 3-6.  Oakland County moms will help children create a “masterpiece” to take home. July 11th Flipspot Gym will teach gymnastics and tumbling.  This is a great day for kids to get their wiggles out and an awesome photo opportunity too.  OCM will have a great “make your own” snack afterwards since the kids will be hungry after all the exercise. July 18th RARA will be doing crafts and games that they utilize during summer camps and programs.  And Great Start Collaborative of Oakland County will be here doing an interactive class and professionals onsite to answer developmental questions about your children. August 1st Flipspot Gym is back to teach cheerleading ; another great photo opportunity!  OCM will help children make homemade pom-poms to take home. August 8th Julianna Blankenship, the author of “Sally Lumpkin’s Party” will do story time.  OCM will host our own party, with games and a special, yummy treat! August 15th RARA is back to teach  “sports for squirts”  and tumbling for toddlers.  OCM will help kids make a picture frame this day to put their sports pictures in.  Remember your cameras! August 22nd Rochester Library returns.  Book TBD.  OCM will host an end of summer party as this will be the last day for our “It Takes a Village” Kids Club.   All these events will require parents to remain with their children and assisting in classes and with activities.  Our volunteers are here to guide and inspire, not to babysit or watch the children.  This is for your child’s personal safety and well-being.
