What is the Librarian's Favorite Book?

Rochester Librarian Christine Hage loves reading, knitting and traveling.

As a librarian, it should come as no surprise that Christine Hage loves to read.

But the Rochester librarian loves much more about working at the library than just the books.

Many interesting people blog on Patch and we want to introduce you to some of them. Each Wednesday we will highlight a new Patch blogger.

Today, Hage answers our questions.

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Detroit and moved to Troy when I was 13.  When I married 42 years ago I moved to Rochester/Rochester Hills.

What are your hobbies?

No one will be surprised that as a librarian I am a voracious reader.  I also travel and knit.

Favorite book?

My favorite book is A Summer All Her Own by Rosanne Keller, but a more recent book that I can recommend is The Last Original Wife by Dorothea Benton Frank.

Favorite movie?

I really enjoyed the movie Searching for Sugar Man the story of Detroit native and musician Sixto Rodriguez.

Best thing about working at the library?

The best thing about working in a library is all the wonderful people you get to meet and work with … of course that can also be the worst thing about working in libraries.  I’m proud to be part of a team that provides a popular and vital service to residents of Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township.

How did it feel to get elected President of United for Libraries and what duties does that entail?

I’m now serving as President-Elect of United for Libraries a division of the American Library Association.  We represent library supporters around the country whether they be library employees, trustees, vendors, fund-raisers or users.  Our goal is to make America’s libraries the very best they can be.

Hage has posted about Taking the Library on Vacation and more.
