Trash Pickup Further Delayed; Monday Pickup Starts Today

This comes from Republic Services, which provides trash-hauling services in Rochester Hills:

Republic Services Operations and Fleet Maintenance teams have been on duty since the early hours of [Tuesday] morning attempting to maintain a fleet of running trucks. Throughout the day, Republic has been battling cold temperatures which are contributing to extremely icy conditions on primary and secondary streets. In addition, the cold temperatures have been a factor in several equipment breakdowns throughout the day.

Due to these unique factors, Republic is running behind on collection service operations. Republic’s Operations team will return to work tomorrow to resume collection service on our remaining Monday routes. Once our Monday collection routes are completed, collection teams will move into the Tuesday collection routes. We will follow this format until the completion of the Friday collection routes on Saturday January 11, 2014. With temperatures rising above 0 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow afternoon. Republic believes that equipment breakdowns will reduce and this will allow us to catch up on all collection service delays by Saturday Jan. 11, 2014.

On Wednesday January 8th, Republic will resume collection service in the Monday collection area for those residents that have not received collection service this week. Republic will work to complete all Monday collection routes first then move to Tuesday collection routes,

Residents are being asked to place containers and bags out for collection one day later than their normal collection day. However, due to the slower than normal conditions residents are asked to please be patient as Republic is running at least one day behind schedule at this point and may be behind by 2 days in certain areas. All collection services are anticipated to be completed by Saturday for all customers.

Republic did postpone the collection of Christmas trees, bulky items, and carts repairs/deliveries today and will work to catch up on this service by Saturday Jan. 11, 2014. 

Republic would like to remind residents that due to recent snow removal operations, waste and recycling containers can become obstructed and/or buried in the snow. Residential customers are being asked to ensure that collection containers and bags can be easily accessed and are visible from the street. This will ensure that materials will be collected when Republic arrives at your location on the delayed schedule. Furthermore, we would also remind residents to place containers and bags in a location where it will not interfere with your local snow removal operations.
