Rochester Hills Pays Respects to Veterans

Crowd braves cold, wet weather to recognize sacrifices by veterans.

Rochester Hills city officials, local veterans and community members paid their respects Monday to the service provided by U.S. veterans.

At a Monday morning Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Pointe at Livernois and Avon, members of local American Legion and VFW chapters erected a battle cross—a helmet, rifle and boots—in front of the park's monument and fired off a ceremonial 21-gun salute.

Addressing the mid-sized crowd who braved cold, wet weather to gather at the park, Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett thanked veterans for their service and sacrifice.

Barnett, in turn, was awarded a plaque from local veterans, thanking them for having their "six," or having their back.
