Check Out These Artists Playing Laneway Festival Detroit This Weekend

St. Jerome's Laneway Festival Detroit makes its U.S. debut Saturday in Rochester Hills. Learn more about the artists playing at Meadow Brook this weekend.

Some of the world's brightest indie artists will take the stage Saturday at Meadow Brook Music Festival as part of St. Jerome's Laneway Festival Detroit.

The music festival, which has rapidly grown in its native Australia since its 2004 debut, will make its North American debut in, of all places, Rochester Hills.

While the lineup of artists is well-known in certain underground music circles, some have hovered just outside of the mainstream. We've compiled a playlist (Spotify required to listen) and a rundown of some of the standout artists performing at the festival.

1. The National
The National has been a fixture in the indie music circuit since its 2001 self-titled debut album. The band opened for President Barack Obama during the 2012 election and its songs "Start A War" and "About Today," respectively, opened and closed the acclaimed 2011 sports film Warrior. The National released its sixth studio album, Trouble Will Find Me, this year and has recently made the late-show circuit, appearing on Late Show With David LettermanThe Colbert Report, Late Night With Jimmy FallonConan and Jimmy Kimmel Live! The National are co-headlining the festival with Sigur Ros.

2. Icona Pop
Icona Pop are a Swedish duo that formed in 2009. The group is perhaps best-known for the hit single "I Love It" featuring Charli XCX (who also was scheduled to perform the festival before recently dropping out), which has been used in a number of commercials and as the theme song for MTV's Jersey Shore spinoff, Snooki & JWoww.

3. Sigur Ros
These long-running, Grammy-nominated Icelandic orchestral rockers provide lush instrumentalization and frontman Jonsi's signature falsetto vocals. Jonsi provided the soundtrack for the 2011 Cameron Crowe film, We Bought a Zoo, which also featured the Sigur Ros song,"Hoppípolla."

4. Washed Out
Washed Out is the stage name for Ernest Greene, a singer-songwriter and record producer signed to Sub Pop Records. His single "Feel It All Around" serves as the intro music for the IFC sketch comedy TV series Portlandia.

5. CHVRCHES
Chvrches are a Scottish pop group from Glasgow building buzz from its single "Recover." Chvrches' debut album, The Bones of What You Believe, will be released Sept. 23.
