RJWC hosts "An Evening at the Great Estate" at Meadow Brook Hall

The Rochester Junior Woman’s Club is excited to announce their upcoming evening fundraising event, “An Evening at the Great Estate” to be held at Meadow Brook Hall. The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

The evening includes a strolling gourmet dinner, tours of the hall, a silent auction, an event signature drink, music by Night and Day productions and dancing. Individual tickets for the event are $85.00 per person and Patron tickets are $100.00 per person with recognition in the program. Proceeds from the event will benefit Crittenton Foundation, Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library and Leader Dogs for the Blind. 

Silent auction items, donated from local businesses, will include: tours of Meadow Brook Hall and the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House, private sessions from McEntire Pilates, car detailing from Classic Appreciation, tickets to Meadow Brook Theater, golf at Katke-Cousins Golf Course (courtesy of the Oakland University Golf & Learning Center), items from the Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Zoological Society and Detroit Princess Riverboat as well as a sunset champagne dinner cruise on Lake St. Clair courtesy of Asset Preservation Capital LLC, just to name a few.

Each of the recipients for this event has specific projects that will benefit from the funds raised.  Crittenton Hospital Medical Center is in the early stages of building a patient tower with 87 private, state-of-the art patient rooms equipped with the latest technology and highest standards of infection control all set in a therapeutic environment.   Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library’s main focus this year is to support a full implementation in the area of Early Literacy.   Leader Dogs for the Blind will use the funds to provide client services at no cost -- including a highly trained dog and travel to and from their facility including room and board. 

The club has a long history with the three recipients. RJWC was instrumental in founding many pieces of the Rochester Community including Crittenton Hospital and the Rochester Hills Public Library and they have supported Leader Dogs for the Blind over the years.  "The Rochester Junior Woman’s Club has been a dedicated supporter of Crittenton Hospital Medical Center for many years; in fact, the club was active in building the hospital originally! Fundraising efforts among its members and within the community through the Red Stocking Review generated donations that helped Crittenton open its doors in 1967” said Melinda Conway Callahan, President, Crittenton Foundation. “As we expand to meet the critical needs of our community, we are grateful for the continued support of the Rochester Junior Woman’s Club," 

The club also has a strong history with Michigan's newest National Historic Landmark - Meadow Brook Hall. The 8,000-square-foot, Tudor-style house located on the campus of Oakland University was once the home of Matilda Dodge Wilson and her second husband Alfred Wilson. In 2005 and 2006 the Rochester Junior Women’s Club (RJWC) raised more than $50,000 during its annual fundraising events to benefit Meadow Brook Hall and Gardens; specifically in Matilda Dodge Wilson’s bedroom including replacement of damaged silk wall coverings.  In addition, RJWC has raised funds to support smaller projects at the Hall as well as for Meadow Brook Garden Club, which is dedicated to preserving, maintaining and enhancing the gardens at the hall.  RJWC hosts their annual end of year Installation Dinner in the Christopher Wren Dining Room.

“We are very excited to be helping these three great organizations especially considering our long history with each of them. And, to be able to come back to the beautiful Meadow Brook Hall to host the event!  It is a perfect combination!” says Toni Wiley, event co-chair.  Wiley is co-chairing the event with Nancy Kamman, Deanna Gross and Lynn Marie Oates who together chaired the 2006 event at the hall.

The club is also planning another event to support the three charities with their annual “Spring Highlights” Luncheon and Shopping Boutique on March 23, 2013 at the Royal Park Hotel. 

For over 50 years the Rochester Junior Woman's Club has been proud to contribute to the growth and vitality of the community through volunteer service and donation of funds to local charities and organizations. Since their inception, the Rochester Junior Woman’s Club has donated more than one million hours of community service and raised more than $790,000 to support the local community.

RJWC is also looking for local businesses that might be interested in sponsorship opportunities, donating auction items or services, placing an ad in the event program or making a monetary donation.
