Avon Players Community Theatre announces open auditions for its first production of the 2012-2013 season, Bye Bye Birdie.

This family musical is the story of rock and roll singer
Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, who, before joining the army, will bid one lucky teenage girl good-bye with an all-American kiss on national television. The lucky girl: Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio. Everyone in town is turned upside down including Hugo who has recently gotten “pinned” to Kim. There are great roles available for teens and adults.

be from the musical and are posted on the Avon Players website at www.avonplayers.org. Performances will be

Avon Players Theatre is located on Washington Road, just north of the Tienken Road and Runyon Road circle. This historic nonprofit community theater group was formed in 1947. The all-volunteer staff produces five full-scale productions each season, with computerized lighting, sound effects, costumes, live orchestra and sets with scenic backdrops all produced by local artists. It is supported by season ticket holders, financial supporters and local advertisers. It is very involved in the community and with many of the area's civic efforts, by either entertaining or loaning out the playhouse. But it is most proud of its impact on the children in the community. Having had many students who have appeared in local commercials, and even moved on to pursue their dream of performing professionally, dreams that were fostered at Avon. With ticket prices that are a fraction of a downtown theaters, free parking and concessions on a donation basis, a family of four can experience live theater for less than the typical cost of a ticket. After the show the cast, crew and audience have a chance to mingle in the lobby.
