No Primary Will Be Held in Rochester Hills City Council Race

Sindy Gensman dropped from ballot after petition signatures deemed ineligible.

There won't be a primary election in Rochester Hills this August after all. Sindy Gensman, one of three at-large candidates who had declared their intention to run before the May 14 filing deadline, did not submit an eligible petition, according to Rochester Hills Clerk Tina Barton, and will not appear on the ballot in November. The at-large race was the only city race that had more than two candidates file, which would have triggered an August primary solely for the at-large race. Barton did not know offhand the potential cost of the primary election, if one had taken place.  Candidates had until Friday to withdraw their names from consideration. Barton said a candidate in another city race, however, also was deemed ineligible. She did …

With three candidates vying for one seat, an Aug. 6 primary is triggered, but that could change if a candidate withdraws before 4 p.m. on Friday, the clerk's office indicated. In District 1, Steph Morita is running. Incumbent Ravi Yalamanchi is term-limited and is not eligible for another term. Thomas Wiggins and Lisa Winarski will compete for District 4. Incumbent Nathan Klomp did not submit signatures …

Mike Rogers, the Republican who represents Rochester and Rochester Hills, is a front-runner for the GOP nomination to the state's next U.S. Senate race, according to a poll released Tuesday. L. Brooks Patterson Looks Ahead: 'The County is Changing'

The Oakland County executive proved he's a stand-up guy during an Election Night appearance in Royal Oak.

As Democrats celebrated election victories Tuesday in Michigan and across the country, the mood at the Emagine Royal Oak theater complex, where more than 200 Oakland County Republicans gathered, was a mixed bag. That is, until L. Brooks Patterson, 73, changed the energy of room.  “He gave some remarks and then he told us he had a surprise for us – and then he stood up on his own,” said former Royal Oak Mayor Dennis Cowan. “Everyone burst into applause.”  Patterson, elected to his sixth term as Oakland County Executive on Nov. 6, was injured in a crash in August that left him hospitalized at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac for five weeks after suffering almost a dozen broken bones. He returned to work in October using a wheelchair and …
