I've Got An Idea, Rochester!

While working in the garage two years ago, making the switch from snowblower to lawnmower, I realized how much I didn't like cutting my lawn.

It's not the mower: it's one of those nice self-propelled ones. I just don't like doing it.

Summer always seems so fleeting, and I just don't want to spend the time doing it. Now snowblowing, on the other hand ... that’s easy: I just happen to have the Hummer-equivilant of a snow machine that was given to me by my father.

And at that moment it dawned on me: I’d be happy to clear somebody’s driveway if they cut my lawn.

Fast-forward to today.

A close friend and I have invested countless hours in research, programming and development to build an online community that networks the skills and talents of real-world communities, making them stronger and more self-sufficient.  Karmagora is becoming the most effictive way for neighbors, businesses and nonprofits to find, benefit and prosper from countless opportunities that would otherwise go wasted.

I’m tired of the phrase “brain-drain” — as if no intelligence remains in Michigan, and Detroit has enough momentum behind it.

Our start-up is building, launching and keeping Karmagora headquarters right here in city we live in: Rochester. We believe in the city and it’s citizens; it exemplifies the community aspect at the heart of karmagora.

This will be Rochester's story of how an idea becomes reality, and with your support, proves that Michigan’s brightest days are just ahead.

Rob-
I just registered for Karmagora. Cool concept. I'm very interested to following its direction and growth.

Thanks for the feedback Jaymes! Plenty of updates and experiences along the way will be posted here on Patch. We're very excited about including the City and our neighbors in the development and launch of karmagora. We're already taking on volunteers and local nonprofits to help us test the Alpha-version of the community, and are gathering lots of great ideas to include in the Beta-version that we'll officially release, starting in Rochester/Rochester Hills!

Hi Nina! Thanks for the support! We're slowly developing the initial community, and beginning to add testers as capacity continues to grow. We can't wait to formally release it to Rochester and Rochester Hills; make sure to share the story and the registration page with your friends within your own micro-community (sub-division, apartment complex, etc.) -- we're building small networks that will eventually be connected later in the year!
