Walking or biking through the Rochester Municipal park these days you might notice the pond seems to be running on empty.
There's a reason for that.
According to city manager, Jaymes Vettraino, the pond was drawn down to repair a pipe that connects it to the Paint Creek.
"The connecting pipe had developed a break and was off-set, which limited the water flow between the creek and the pond," Vettraino said.
All's well that ends well
The pipe was repaired on Oct. 12 with a slip-liner pipe but now needs about seven days to set.
The City will refill the pond Oct. 19- 22.

I have heard that there is talk of eventually removing that dam and getting water for the pond through a well. There is also talk of removing all dams and obstacles from Lake Orion through Rochester so the fish can get up stream to spawn again. Speaking of lowering the water, Lake Orion has lowered their lake (a man made lake that dams the Paint Creek) by 36" to inspect the dam and make repairs. They are set to start refilling the lake November 12 which should have an impact on the Paint Creek water levels.

How many drumsticks were seen? They're traditionally thrown into the pond by the Falcon marching band after the Christmas Parade, by seniors.
