On Sunday, the Detroit Free Press featured Bacco Ristorante in Southfield as its 2013 Restaurant of the Year. Soon after, a discussion began on the Rochester Patch Facebook page: "What would you say is our 'Restaurant of the Year' here in Rochester and Rochester Hills?" we asked.

The nominations ran from date night favorites (Rochester Chop House and Silver Spoon) to the newbies (Lucky's Prime Time and The Meeting House) to fast food (Lipuma's Coney Island and even Taco Bell).

Kruse & Muer took the most votes in our unofficial poll.

Here's a look at the restaurants you offered up as tops in Rochester and Rochester Hills:

  • Kruse & Muer
  • Black Bird Bistro
  • Silver Spoon
  • Kabin Kruser
  • Penny Black
  • Bravo
  • Rochester Chop House
  • Lucky's Prime Time
  • Mitchell's Fish Market
  • Mezza Grille
  • The Meeting House
  • RJs
  • CJ Mahoneys
  • Grand Tavern
  • Lipuma's
  • Taco Bell
  • Paul's on Main
  • Miguel's

Here's what you had to say about some of the nominees:

"The Meeting House should win...or at least give it Rookie of the Year," posted Patch reader Jessica Opfer. "It's the first innovative restaurant to open downtown since...well, since Mind, Body and Spirits. I just hope it has more longevity."

David Montemurri voted for Lipumas as the "one place that all transplanted Rochesterians must go to when back in town."

Reader Gina Certa Shay justified the votes for Taco Bell: "Taco Bell might just be in the running because there are SO many overpriced-but-underwhelming restaurants in Rochester and Rochester Hills. It's kind of a weird oasis of culinary mediocrity."

What do you think? If you had to declare on restaurant in town as "Restaurant of the Year," which would it be? Tell us in the comments.

The Rochester Chophouse/Kabin Krusers has my vote. It's been the best and most consistent Rochester restaurant for food quality and service year after year.....a well managed establishment.

Rochester Chop and Bravo--both very distinct in the area--both superb food, ambience and service. Hats off to Vince and everyone and we can't say enough about Will at Bravo, Chris, Mike and Emily. Two of the finest restaurants in the area.

GIna Certa Shay is spot on. We are new to this area and were so disappointed at so much of the same 1960's food. blah. The best consistently good food at a non chain is at Hamlin Pub- much of the ethnic food is run of the mill and mediocre- Bravo is good- and consistent. Penny Black was good, but not memorable enough to rush back- have heard good things about Lino's but haven't tried it yet. Kruse and Muer was a huge disapointment- good bread/rolls though.

Waiting 30 to 45 minutes for your reserved seating is ridiculous there. Maybe they should hand out the bread during the wait time.

Agree with Jeff's posting above. Can't believe readers voted Kruse and Muer as #1. The service and food quality have taken a dive over the past few years, plus the menu is lackluster (except for the classics). Even though the restaurants have the same owners, the RCH/KK's has much better service and food.

I agree totally. We were weekly regulars there for 20 years, but we don't go anymore because of the service and the food. It used to be a great place to go.

I love Miguel's Cantina for a casual, but authentic neighborhood hangout. I love the tableside salsa, and "just right" portions. My Sombrero is off to Miguel's.

My first choice is the "Rochester Chophouse", my second choice is the "Golden Eagle"
...Last night we tried "Black Bird Bistro" and that experience was way below expectations . $16 Fish and Chips...fries were cold and one of the (4) pieces of fish was glazy inside...A lot of restaurants don't understand "kitchen quality process control"..

Love K & M! Always take the out of towners to that and Chop. New favorite is The Meeting House going there tonight:) Can't wait for Big Salad (or whatever the name is going to be)...sounds like it will be like Salad Sensation on Hall Road. I also am excited about the french restaurant going in Chapman House.

Luca's is my fav. Excellent food, drinks, and staff! But, you can't beat the breadsticks app at Bar Louie... Amazing!

I think Mezza Grille should be voted "Restaurant of the Year", due to the fact that the food is amazing, the atmosphere is always friendly and inviting and welcoming, the place is always clean and it has a warm and comforting feel to it. You always feel welcomed and part of the family there.

BEST depends on what you want to eat that night. You don't need to spend a weeks pay if you are in the mood for a pizza, or burger and beer. Unfair to rate all restaurants on the same level.

Have to agree with Nancy's comment that the "best" restaurant" depends on what type of experience and food you enjoy most.
We are fortunate to have several good-great places to dine close by. Whether it's casual (pizza, wings, coneys) to a nice meal (fish, steak, pasta, etc) Rochester / Oakland county has much to offer.
I see where they are putting a Cheese Cake Factory in Novi's 12 Oaks Mall. From I've read, it's to bad they didn't build it in the Village.

The Golden Eagle! Nothing can top their Shrimp Scampi or the Mario Sauce! They also have the best staff in town. Where else can you go and have so many familiar faces working there?

Current best in my book is the new Meeting House-most interesting combinations of foods introducing new ideas with old favorites-i.e. cheesy grits, collard greens with pork belly, and shrimp...wow!!!! Never disappointed so far!
