Weekend Planner: The Memorial Day Edition

Have a three-day weekend? Here are some ideas to fill it up.

 

For Everyone: Greater Rochester Heritage Days
Where: Rochester Municipal Park
When: Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Why go: This annual festival offers tons to do, including arts and crafts, live folk music, a car show, Civil War reenactments and much more. Read our preview story here.
Pricing: Free

For Girl's Night Out: Beverages on the Patio
Where: The patios around town are open and ready to be enjoyed with a libation or two. Check out Limelight, The Hills, Mitchell's Fish Market, or Paint Creek Tavern.
When: Location times vary, but most are open to 10 p.m. or later.
Why go: Beer seems to taste better when you are drinking it outside in the sunshine.
Pricing: Depends on how thirsty you are!

For Date Night: A romantic picnic
Where: Try one of our metroparks, your back deck or even your living room carpet.
Where to get supplies: Williams-Sonoma, Homegoods and Pier 1 Imports all have cute picnic supplies. For prepared foods, try Papa Joe's .
Pricing: You can make this basic with fried chicken or gourmet it up with beautiful cheese, pate and a great bottle of wine.

For Families: Cirque D'Or
Where: Oakland University (Meadow Brook Music Festival)
When: Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Why go: This Chinese Acrobatic group will amaze you with their dance, acrobatics and artistry. Their flexibility will leave you breathless.
Pricing: $22 pavillion and $17 general seating. www.ticketmaster.com

For Free: Pitch in and Plant 
Where: Rochester Hills Public Library
When: Friday at 7 p.m.
Why go: Your kids (second grade and under) can help plant seed cups for the garden. Bring your favorite veggie seeds, and don't be afraid to make it something unusual. Their goal is to have veggies from around the world.
