"This is the coldest this race has ever been."

Gathered at the start/finish line of the Brooksie Way Half-Marathon event Sunday morning in Rochester, this was a common refrain.

But the cold didn't keep runners and walkers away — and, in fact, it may have helped them forget about the hilly terrain.

More than 4,200 runners and walkers participated in the fourth-annual half-marathon — a record number, according to Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. The race is named after his son, Brooks, who died in 2007.

The winner was Shane Logan of Pontiac; Sarah Gryniewicz of Grosse Pointe Woods was the top female finisher.

These photos help tell the story of the race; we also have a look at a marriage proposal at the finish line, as well as a gallery of runners, photographed at different spots along the course. In addition, we have a look at the top finishers.

Did you run in the race or take photos of someone who did? We invite you to add your photos here.
