Runner Found Dead in Bathroom Along Rochester Hills Trail

The 62-year-old Shelby Township man was training for the Boston Marathon, family members told sheriff's deputies.

A man who had been running alone along the Clinton River Trail, likely over the weekend, was found dead Wednesday morning in a Rochester Hills park bathroom.

According to Detective Ray White, the man, who had been training for the Boston Marathon, died of a heart attack.

The man was 62 years old and lived alone in Shelby Township, White said. His co-workers had been concerned he had not shown up for work this week, White said.

The man's body was discovered by two Rochester Hills parks employees conducting routine maintenance on the bathroom, which is located beside the trail inside park. The door to the men's bathroom was locked and the employees had to force it open, White said.

Sheriff's deputies arrived on the scene shortly after the 10:30 a.m. discovery. The man had identification pinned to his waist. His car was discovered a short time later in a parking lot near off Main Street in Rochester, which is about a mile from where his body was discovered. White said it is not known whether he had just begun his run or whether he was on his way back to his car.
