Rockin' Cupcakes Expands With Sweet Offerings in Macomb
Babycakes Cafe opened two weeks ago on Romeo Plank Road; it sells the Rochester Hills-made cupcakes.
Rockin' Cupcakes, the Rochester Hills bakery that creates sweet treats named with rock music in mind, is expanding its audience to the east side.
Babycakes Café Cupcakes and More opened two weeks ago in Macomb Township and is featuring the Rochester Hills cupcakes, which owner Pamela Ferguson picks up each morning before her shop opens for the day.
Located at at 51090 Romeo Plank Road, in the plaza just north of 23 Mile Road, Babycakes is the first cupcake shop in Macomb Township.
“I’m really excited to bring these products, Michigan-made products, to Macomb Township, an area that doesn’t have a business such as this,” Ferguson told Macomb Patch. “Whether it's parents buying a cupcake for their child to reward them on a good day, or special ordering cupcakes for your wedding, we want to fill the need.”
Rockin' Cupcakes opened just over a year ago in the plaza near Papa Joe's at Tienken and Rochester roads. Along with gourmet cupcakes, it sells Cook's Farm Dairy ice cream.
Ferguson has been a frequent customer of Rockin' Cupcakes, owner Jim Ohngren said.
"She used to stop in five or six times a week and told me over and over again, 'I would love to own a cupcake shop,'" Ohngren said.
In a time of restaurant and bakery closings around town (Bonjour Cucpakes in downtown Rochester closed its doors last week), Ohngren said he feels proud that his treats have gained such a following.
"We have had a few other offers to expand, but we chose to work with Pam because she is really sincere," he said.
Ohngren said Babycakes will rename its cupcakes, since Rockin' Cupcakes names its creations after rock music.
