It's the first competition of its kind for the Ohngrens, who opened their shop two and a half years ago at the corner of Tienken and Rochester roads.

Owner Jim Ohngren, Mary's husband, said "Cupcake Wars" producers were searching for Midwest bakers to feature on the show; they approached Rockin' Cupcakes.

The show was filmed last summer. The Ohngrens signed a confidentiality agreement and agreed not to reveal the outcome of the show; they had to wait until two weeks before the show was to air to tell their fans that they were going to be featured.

"Good for Rockin' Cupcakes, bad for the rest of us! Now EVERYBODY in the nation will know how wonderful they are!" posted one fan on the bakery's Facebook page this week.

The cupcake challenge the Ohngrens will be asked to complete will have a zoo theme. According to a description of the episode: "The fur will be flying as four bakers fight for the opportunity to serve their cupcakes at a members only party at the world famous San Diego Zoo."

In August, Royal Oak's Taste Love Cupcakes was a "Cupcake Wars" winner. According to reports on Royal Oak Patch, the winning cupcakes — Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Tequila & Lime and Sweet Potato — were sell-outs at the Main Street bakery after the episode aired.

Jim Ohngren said he and Mary were working on plans for a potential watch party and other festivities surrounding the March 3 show.
