Rochester Hills Man Hospitalized After Causing Serious Crash, Police Say
Investigators suspect alcohol was a factor in the evening crash that shut down the northbound lanes of Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills on Wednesday night.
Officials with the Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety said a man already facing drunken driving charges for a previous incident is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol when he caused a wrong-way collision on Woodward Avenue Wednesday evening.
The 20-year-old Rochester Hills man, who was not identified in police reports, was hospitalized along with another driver with serious injuries, according to a statement prepared by Lt. Noel Clason. The injuries are not believed to be life threatening, and the man is not in custody while charges are pending.
The initial investigation showed that the Rochester Hills man was travelling southbound in the northbound lanes of Woodward Avenue when he sideswiped one vehicle, and then struck another head on shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Clason said the Rochester Hills man is suspected of operating while impaired and has another OWI charge pending from an earlier charge with another department. Further details were not immediately available.
Police sought a search warrant for blood-alcohol level draw for evidence and await results.
The road remained closed for more than an hour.
