The annual Ice Cream Social is the official kickoff for the library's summer reading program.

Does all that reading make you hungry?

Hundreds of patrons of the Rochester Hills Public Library gathered Tuesday afternoon for the annual ice cream social that officially kicks off summer reading.

Readers big and small received a free vanilla cone — sprinkles were optional. During most of the event, the line wrapped around the building; library employees and volunteers served the treats.

The event is designed to promote the library's summer reading program. Any resident of Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township may register for the free program that rewards readers with prizes; for more information or to register, visit rhpl.org.

Did you attend the ice cream social? Tell us in the comments.
