Petey the Dog Puts Rochester Hills in the News — All Across the World

The Jack Russell terrier went missing from his home in Tennessee and ended up in the city; he was returned to his owner today.

In the past two days, there have been more than 330 news stories written about the plight of Petey the dog, who was found this week in Rochester Hills but lost in Tennessee over the summer.

The latest report is the story's happy ending: the Detroit Free Press reports today that Petey, a 4-year-old Jack Russell terrier, was reunited with his owner this morning after a volunteer with the Michigan Humane Society drove him home to his owner overnight on Wednesday.

The Chicago Tribune, the Washington Post and hundreds of other newspapers and television stations have reported on Petey's journey.

So, too, have newspapers and blogs as far away as Australia and Spain.

At the humane society, workers used the story to tout the benefits of the microchip, which helped them identify Petey.

"This story put a smile on the faces of our entire adoption center team," said Marcelena Mace, shelter manager at the Rochester Hills office.

"It’s wonderful when we see microchip reunions, including those that seem like miracles. It really proves that no matter how far your pet may travel, a microchip can help him find his way home."

Does your pet have a microchip? What do you think of Petey's amazing journey? Tell us in the comments.

Petey must have wanted to check out the fall color in Michigan! How on earth did he get that far?
