Rebecca Bosman of Troy has a big smile as she makes her way along the course for the half-marathon. The 30-year-old runner finished in 1:39.49. Behind Bosman is Luke Alward, 36, of Rochester Hills. About 5,000 people ran or walked Sunday in the fourth annual Brooksie Way Half-Marathon in Rochester and Rochester Hills.

There's a reason the Brooksie Way half-marathon course was named among the nation's most scenic.

From the wooded, gravel hills of Dutton Road to the bustle of downtown Rochester to the fall colors along the Paint Creek Trail, more than 4,200 runners and walkers disregarded the cold to enjoy (or endure) the race. Another 1,000 walked or ran in the 5K around Oakland University, and still more participated in a 1-mile fun run.

Here, our photographers captured some of the magic.
