Holiday Inn Express Gets Approval in Rochester Hills

The design plans for the three-story hotel will be finalized by Christmas, owners say.

The owner of a future Holiday Inn Express in Rochester Hills said he hopes the hotel will be open by July 4, 2013.

The three-story hotel's site plan received final approval from Rochester Hills City Councilmembers on Monday night. It will be built on 2.82 acres south of M-59 between Meijer and Grand Tavern off Adams Road.

It will have 83 rooms, a fitness center and an indoor swimming pool.

The developer and owner is the Rochester Hills-based Amerilodge Group. Its president, Asad Malik, spoke to councilmembers on Monday night.

Malik lives in Rochester Hills. He said his company manages 12 hotels in Michigan and Indiana, including one under construction in Troy.

"After developing hotels across southeast Michigan, I looked in my back yard and thought, 'there's something missing here,' " Malik said.

The Rochester Hills Holiday Inn Express will be built to look like one that recently opened in Lansing.

Great! Rochester Hills needs this, but I wonder how many neighboring residents will try and defuse it?

The site plan has been approved, so the hotel is being built. There was one public comment during the council's deliberation of the site plan approval and that was from a resident who was in favor of the development.

I don't know about neighboring residents if it is being built by the Meijer/Walmart complex. I don't think the failed condo development, Wheaton & Worralls Estates or the curious little trailer park with ivy league college road names will be close enough to be concerned. Overall, it is a good boost for the area even if I am against this suburban style development.
