Andrew Good knows a bit about standing on the mound under the bright lights of The Big Show.

The North Hill Elementary fifth grade teacher pitched for parts of three season in the major leagues, including two games with the Tigers in 2005. He appeared in 35 major-league games, most of them with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

So let's root, root, root for the Tigers

Good also knows the power of a strong fan base.

"There's a reason they call it 'home field advantage,'" Good said. "Those cheers give you extra energy, extra incentive to do your best."

So when his home team and former team the Detroit Tigers beat the Oakland A's Thursday night to advance to the ALCS, Good knew just what to do— and fortunately Patch was there to catch it.

Friday morning Good led his class of fifth graders in the baseball classic, "Take Me Out to the Ballgame."

And although at that time the Tigers next opponent had yet to be determined, Good said he would pick the Tigers against either team, the New York Yankees or Baltimore Orioles.

"Of course it's the cherry on top to beat New York," Good added.

Take me out to the ballgame....or not

With two young boys at home Good said he'd be watching all the games from the comfort of his living room.

And although the relief pitcher had his own superstition when playing, they don't apply to viewing games.

"Growing up a Tiger fan, Sparky Anderson always stepped over the foul lines. So when I played I always stepped on them—and said a prayer," Good said. "That was my superstition."

Foul lines. Prayers. Whatever it takes.
