Rochester Hills paid tribute on Sunday to Rochester High School graduate Kyle McClain, who was killed Aug. 1 in Afghanistan.

A bench and a brick placed permanently at Veterans Memorial Pointe in Rochester Hills will help the community remember one of its own fallen heroes.

Kyle McClain was killed Aug. 1 while serving his country in Afghanistan. On Sunday morning — Veterans Day — his family members gathered with local veterans and city leaders to dedicate a bench in his honor. Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett spoke at the event.

McClain, 25, was a soldier in the Michigan National Guard assigned to the 1433rd Engineer Company of the 507th Engineer Battalion in the 177th Military Police Brigade in Kalamazoo, Mich. He died in Salim Aka, Afghanistan while clearing roadways of improvised explosive devices, according to reports.

He graduated from Rochester High School in 2005. His wife, Lisa, and his parents, Michael and Geraldine, attended the dedication.
