These things we know about Rochester: As the weather turns colder and the holidays approach, the lights start to go up.

The men of J. Ranck Electric are hard at work stringing more than 1 million LED lights on downtown Rochester.

The crew is preparing the buildings for the Big, Bright Light Show, which begins Nov. 29. The light show, which runs until Jan. 2, 2011, will span four city blocks in downtown Rochester.

Workers began stringing lights in mid-October, and they plan to complete the project in late November. This is the first year J. Ranck Electric has strung the lights for the Big, Bright Light Show, and the crew seems to be enjoying the project.

"My favorite part is being outside," said Gus Almasy. "I meet just awesome people every day."

Excited for the Big, Bright Light Show? Tell us in the comments.

Interesting! My mom and I noticed the "light guys" on our way home from the Farmers' Market and were wondering if it was city that put up the lights. How appropriate.
