Crim Down, Brooksie to Go: Win a Free Entry into Oct. 2 Half-Marathon
We're giving away race registrations for the Brooksie Way half-marathon through Rochester Hills and Rochester.
If you were one of the thousands who ran the Crim in Flint on Saturday, you probably don't want to think about the Brooksie Way just yet.
But for the rest of you, know that the Oct. 2 half-marathon through Rochester and Rochester Hills is fast approaching.
To help give you an incentive to get running, the Brooksie Way team has donated two entries to the half-marathon (each a $60 value).
To win, post a comment telling us why you run; we'll pick two winners at random.
Here's how it will work:
- Post one comment here telling us why you run.
- Please, only one entry per person.
- All comments must be posted by midnight Wednesday, Aug. 31, to be counted for the contest.
- One winner will be selected in a random drawing Thursday. That winner will receive an e-mail notification from Patch, which must be responded to within 48 hours to receive the prize.
The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official Patch contest rules; you can read them here.
Why do you run?

I run for all things related to the heart. I run to keep my heart healthy after suffering from congestive heart failure after the delivery of my son 5 years ago and to ensure I am around for him and my future grandchildren. I run for a grandfather I never met and my beloved Uncle Tommy who died at the all too young age of 49 due to heart attacks. I run to keep my heart happy and relieve stress. Running makes me a better mom. I've replaced my jogging stroller with my son next to me on his bicycle cheering me on. I run to reach the finish line and the greetings of my sons' hugs and kisses which warm my heart. In the end, it isn't about how fast you are or the number of medals you earn, it's about dedication of the heart and the love of the run.

I run for my health, for my mind, and for me. It's the only time I feel like I'm free...and the quiet time running the trails is amazing. It makes me see Rochester in a whole different light. I just recently started running, and after my first 5k, I was ready to tackle a half. Brooksie seems perfect, as it is right in our hometown, and I went to the same High School that Brooksie did. Running makes me feel Rad. Enough said :)

I run/walk because I'm blessed to have the ability. 8 years ago I nearly lost my life in a car accident and spent over a year learning how to walk again. The greater Rochester community support really fueled my determination in recovery. Being a Rochester high alum, playing small college basketball at Rochester College, and working at OU, the brooksie is a special course in a special community!

I run for many reasons….it makes me feel good about myself, it’s a natural high, an addictive natural high, and I can really clear my mine while running. Plus it gives me energy; Runner Rebecca has a lot more pep and energy than non-runner Rebecca.

Lots of reasons! For energy, to escape my kids for a little while, the confidence it gives me, the 'good soreness' afterwards, so I can pay a visit to the cupcake shop... The list could go on and on. ;)
