Board Names 6 Candidates for Rochester Schools Superintendent

Board of Education will begin interviewing hopefuls next week, including district's assistant superintendent for instruction.

The Rochester Board of Education will choose from six candidates, including one from Rochester, to be the next superintendent of .

Geraldine Moore, the district's assistant superintendent for instruction, was among the candidates announced Monday night to replace David Pruneau, who will retire in August.

The others are from Michigan school districts:

  • Frederick Clarke, superintendent of Albion Public Schools. Clarke was a finalist for the superintendent position in Saginaw earlier this year.
  • Paul DeAngelis, deputy superintendent of Birmingham Public Schools. DeAngelis was recently a finalist for the superintendent position in Novi. DeAngelis has been in his position for five years and lives in White Lake, according to .
  • Thomas Harwood, assistant superintendent for human resources of Grosse Pointe Public School System.
  • Karl Paulson, superintendent of Lakeview Public Schools in St. Clair Shores, which has about 3,600 students. In a press release issued last week, Paulson announced his school administration reached a settlement with all four of his district's unions, months prior to their summer 2011 expirations. Paulson said the deal would save the Lakeview district about $2 million over four years.
  • Gary Richards, superintendent of Imlay City Community Schools. Richards was one of two finalists for the superintendent position in Clarkston in the fall, according to Clarkston Board of Education meeting minutes.

The candidates are scheduled to be interviewed beginning at 6 p.m. March 14, 16 and 17* at the school administration center. Two candidates will be interviewed each night.

After board members narrow the candidates further, a second round of interviews is planned for March 22, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.  The March 22 and 24 meetings will be public forums to interview the final candidates; the March 25 meeting will be a final discussion by the board and possible selection of a new superintendent.

Finally, a special public meeting is set for 7 p.m. March 28 at the administration center for formal selection of the superintendent.
