And you thought Santa's elves were busy this time of year.

Get this: Home Bakery in downtown Rochester received more than 400 orders  this past weekend alone.

"This is our busiest time of year," manager Tiffany Bruno said.

And for good reason.

Everything is made and decorated in-house and has been for more than 75 years. While the bakery offers a variety of goods, they are known for their award-winning cakes.

Anyone who has walked down Main Street can't help but notice the amazing cakes in Home Bakery's window.

At Christmas time they really dazzle.

"We have a lot of talented decorators," Bruno said. "Everything is custom done."

I'm not the only one impressed. A first-time customer exclaimed when walking through the door,

"Now this is a bakery!"

A standard cake starts at $25 with special batter, filling and frosting options. A minimum of 72 hours is required for a standard cake order. Holiday orders will not be accepted after next Tuesday.

"We do yule logs, tree and wreath cakes and a very popular gingerbread mansion," Bruno said. "When it comes to Christmas, we do a little bit of everything!"

My favorite cake looked like a plate of cookies for Santa, complete with real cookies and an edible "mug" of hot chocolate.

With hundreds and hundreds of orders Bruno couldn't say what the most popular item was, but she was sure of her personal favorite. "I love our tortes with three layers of cakes and two layers of fresh fruit and mousse!"

Cookie trays and cookie boxes are also available.

Best of all for the busy hostess, delivery is an option.
