5 Finalists Move Ahead in Search for Rochester School Board Member

They will be interviewed again on Wednesday night.

Five finalists have advanced to a second round of interviews for one open seat on the Rochester Board of Education.

The finalists are:

  • Sherry Wynn Purdue
  • Gary Tucker
  • Kelly Borowski
  • Michael Zabat
  • Brian Kirksey

The five finalists were chosen from a pool of 15 candidates, who were interviewed by board members Monday night.

These finalists will be interviewed for a second time during a 6:30 p.m. Wednesday public meeting.

Gerald Moore's resignation two weeks ago from the Rochester Board of Education left an opening on the board. Board members plan to fill the position by Dec. 10, just in time for interviews with potential superintendent candidates to begin. The appointed member will serve until the next school election, which will be November 2014; that elected board member will serve until the end of 2016.

The Wednesday meeting will be held in the Parker Room of the School Administration Building; the interviews will follow a brief board business meeting.

The new board member will be sworn in and begin duties on Dec. 10.

There was an unbelievable amount of educated, well-spoken, experienced candidates in the meeting last night. We are so lucky to have dedicated community members who want to see RCS continue to thrive. Excellent job to all candidates, and although I am a bit biased, I wish the best of luck to all of the finalists. ;)

I think Brian would be an excellent addition to the board. Actual parents are much more invested in the quality of the schools.
