The 14th Annual Lobster Boil Was A Great Success!

The Rochester Junior Woman’s Club is grateful to all of the community members who came out to support their 14th annual Lobster Boil on Saturday, September 29th. The event was a great success, selling almost 1500 lobsters!

The live New England lobsters were flown in fresh early Saturday morning and members of RJWC cooked, wrapped and had the lobsters hot and ready for customers at the Older Persons’ Commission drive-thru site.

“Customers pre-ordered their lobsters and then they just drive up to the OPC at their chosen time and their lobsters are given to them!  They don’t even have to get out of their car,” said Nancy Kamman, co-chair of this year’s Lobster Boil. “And, if you happened to miss out on ordering your lobsters this year, make sure to mark your calendar for the last Saturday in September each year!” Kamman co-chaired the event with club members Linda Dill, Cyndi Toupin, Pam Teimorzadeh and Toni Wiley.

Proceeds from this years’ Lobster Boil went to benefit Crittenton Foundation, Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library, Leader Dogs for the Blind, OPC and other local charities.

The funds from the Lobster Boil will help to support specific projects for the recipients;

Crittenton's new patient tower will provide 87 private, state-of-the-art patient rooms equipped with the latest technology and highest standards of infection control, set in a therapeutic environment, Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library’s main focus this year is to full implementation in the area of Early Literacy and Leader Dogs for the Blind provide all clients services at no cost: this includes a highly trained dog, travel to and from Leader Dog, and room and board.

The club is also planning two other events to raise funds for their recipients. The first event the club has planned to raise funds for the recipients will be held on January 26, 2013 at Meadow Brook Hall. The evening will include tours of the hall, a strolling gourmet dinner, music, dancing and a silent auction.  The club is also currently planning their annual “Spring Highlights” Luncheon and Shopping Boutique for March 23, 2013 at the Royal Park Hotel.
