Thanks to a great collaboration between Chartwells Food Service and Rochester Community Schools PTA Green Committee volunteers, several schools were able to donate fresh, perishable food to Forgotten Harvest on December 21, the Friday before winter break. This is food that Chartwells would otherwise have had to throw away. Using West Middle School as the collection point, PTA volunteers collected excess food from the cafeterias at West; Rochester High School; and Hugger, McGregor, and MeadowBrook Elementary Schools, and transported the food to West. The Forgotten Harvest driver then just had to make one stop to pick up all of the excess food. In this photo, students from West Middle School hand some of the food over to the Forgotten Harvest driver. Forgotten Harvest is a charity that collects and distributes fresh food to those in need. The schools that participated will receive a "green point" in their annual quest to be designated as an official Michigan Green School.
