The Great Lakes Dance Festival will be joining forces with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble Summer Intensive to bring you an amazing and unique summer dance experience. The program will culminate with a performance at Oakland University’s Varner Recital Hall on Friday, July 20 at 7:00pm.

9:00 am-4:00 pm Monday-Friday with daily classes in Ballet, Repertory, Contemporary and Jazz.

$530 or $505 if registered by June 6 (includes a non-refundable $5 registration fee)

50% discount on one class card OR one summer on-going class will be offered with Festival Registration.

For the experienced dancer ages 16 and older. Housing available on campus at Oakland University for additional room and board fees.

BRIAN MCGINNIS is one of the guest artists at this years Great Lakes Dance Festival. McGinnis currently dances with The Lar Lubovitch Dance Company in NYC. He proudly began his training at the age of seven in Worcester, Massachusetts with Jo Ann Warren. Professionally, he has danced with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Elisa Monte Dance, Parsons Dance Company and Buglisi Dance Theatre. He is an Artist in Residence, choreographing and teaching at The Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Along side his fifteen years of National and International touring McGinnis has taught in such places as Boston Arts Academy, University of California at Berkley, Loyola University and Visceral Dance in Chicago, AreaDance in Milan, and The University of Washington, Seattle. In 2009, Brian co-created and presented Romeo and Juliet-a death marked love, at The Peace Center in Greenville, South Carolina. He holds his Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Juilliard School under the directorship of Benjamin Harkarvy.

SAMANTHA SHELTON will be teaching ballet at the Great Lakes Dance Festival! Ms. Shelton is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor at Alma College in the Theatre and Dance Department, where she also co-directs the Alma College Dance Company.  She received her professional training from the Joffrey Ballet and the David Howard Dance Center in New York and in Michigan with Rose Marie Floyd.  She… has also trained in London with Anita Young, former soloist with the Royal Ballet and at the Cecchetti Summer Program in Chichester, England.   For the past fifteen years, she has been on the ballet faculty for American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, teaching, setting ABT repertoire and choreographing new ballets for the final performance at the Detroit Opera House.  She has also taught and choreographed for the professional ballet program at the Walnut Hill School in Boston, directed by former ABT principal, Michael Owen and was on faculty at the Interlochen Arts Academy for three summers. Recently, she was invited to choreograph a new ballet for Wayne State University and to set her ballet “Two Seasons” on the dancers at Grand Valley State University.  She has performed extensively in both classical and contemporary ballets, including the Grand Pas from Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, also principal roles in Giselle and Raymonda.  She had been on the ballet faculties at Wayne State University and the Detroit Opera House, where she was the artistic director for the Detroit Opera House’s Civic Dance Ensemble.   Samantha holds an M.F.A in Dance from the University of Michigan, where she was awarded a Rackham Thesis grant, and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan. She has also done graduate work at New York University in Performing Arts Administration with internships in development and marketing at Carnegie Hall and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s.    Recently, she was elected, for a second three-year term, to the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance Alumni Society Board of Governors and the Executive Board of the Michigan Dance Council. She is certified through the American Ballet Theatre National Curriculum Training Program and will be traveling to Taiwan in May to Tainan University, to teach and present a piece of her choreography.
