AHS Girls Making Baskets Off the Court

AHS Girls Make Baskets Off The Court

Auburn Hills, MI  On Saturday November 17, 2012 the Rochester AdamsHigh School girls’ basketball team skipped practice and assembled ThanksgivingBaskets instead. The Varsity, JV, and freshman squads all participated in the
project that was coordinated by Kensington Church. It took most of the day to fill1000 empty laundry baskets with all the essentials needed for a holidayfeast.  The food baskets were thendelivered to our neighbors in need.  Senior and Varsity Captain Brittany Boyle expressed, “A few teammates and I delivered a basket to a family of two- a mother and her son.  Seeing their smiling faces when we handedthem their Thanksgiving meal was the pinnacle of the whole experience.  I knew then that even if I had only helped this one family, it was by all means worth it.
Their joy was almost inexpressible.”  The girls’ basketball program has a long history of community service. Varsity Coach, Fran Scislowicz, teaches his players the importance of dedicating their time and talent not only to the basketball court, but to the classroom and the greater community as well.  The girls will also participate in a unique holidaygift giving program.   Each player has
selected a child and received their personal Christmas wish list.  In addition to shopping for the gifts, the girls will also meet with the children and spend time reading to them.  Visit www.adamsbasketball.com  to view the AHS girls’ game schedule.
