Free books – yes! More than 10,000 of them! For the past 18 months, every child seen at Kidz1st Pediatrics has had the opportunity to receive or choose a book for their home collection. To help with school readiness and encourage reading in the home, Kidz1st Pediatrics provides every child with a new, age and language appropriate book at their 6 month to 5 year well visit. Additionally, every child who visits the office has a chance to choose a gently used book from their “Recycled Reader” program. On Wednesday, December 19, 2 year old Sophia received the 10,000th book since Kidz1st’s first launched the program in July 2011!
Kidz1st appreciates their affiliated KidzKare non-profit for helping them raise money for new books and collect gently used titles. Most recently, the Rochester Community Schools Pre-K Preschool Program held a new and used book drive in support of the program. In the spirit of the season, the 4 year old children were most generous and gathered over 700 books. Thank you!
